Stephen Schwarzman

Stephen A. Schwarzman co-founded Blackstone in 1985 and remains its chairman and chief executive. Under his leadership, the firm expanded from a private-equity partnership into a diversified alternative asset manager with major businesses in real estate, private equity, credit, infrastructure, multi-asset investing and life sciences. Career

Before Blackstone, Schwarzman worked in investment banking at Lehman Brothers, where he became a managing director. He co-founded Blackstone in 1985 and has been involved in all phases of the firm’s development, according to its biography. The business initially focused on private equity and later added real estate, credit and other investment strategies. Blackstone went public in 2007. Schwarzman continues to serve as chairman and CEO, while the firm reports more than $1.3 trillion in assets under management as of mid-2026.
