Leon Black
Leon Black co-founded Apollo Global Management in 1990 with Joshua Harris and Marc Rowan and led the firm as chairman and chief executive for three decades. He resigned from Apollo’s board and executive roles in March 2021, when Rowan became CEO. Black is therefore a historical figure in Apollo’s formation and growth, not a current member of its management. Apollo leadership transition announcement · Apollo 2022 proxy statement

Black began his career at Drexel Burnham Lambert, where he led the mergers and acquisitions group. After Drexel’s collapse, he founded Apollo as an investment firm focused on distressed and complex situations. Over time, Apollo broadened into private equity, credit and real assets, including real estate. Black’s contribution to CRE is best described through that firm-building role; public sources do not establish him as the direct lead on specific Apollo property acquisitions or developments. Associated Press profile of Apollo’s 2021 review · Apollo leadership transition announcement
Apollo’s independent review of Black’s prior professional relationship with Jeffrey Epstein preceded the 2021 leadership change. The company released the review and its findings publicly; subsequent reporting records that Black stepped away from the firm. This context explains why his role is dated here and why the current executive leadership is described separately. It does not alter the firm’s real-estate strategy or establish individual transaction responsibility. Apollo independent-review announcement · Apollo 2022 proxy statement
