Career and Focus

Before co-founding Camden, Oden was director of financial planning at Century Development Corporation and a management consultant at Deloitte Haskins & Sells. He and Campo formed Camden’s predecessor companies in 1982. Oden became president when Camden went public in 1993 and held the role through 2019, later returning to the presidency from late 2021 until April 2024. He then served as executive vice chairman. His responsibilities covered company strategy and operations across multifamily development, acquisitions, construction and property management.

Camden announced that Oden retired from executive service effective August 31, 2026, as the final step in a multiyear succession process. He remains a trust manager on the board. Company materials describe his influence on its management culture and operating approach, while Alex Jessett now serves as CEO and Ric Campo continues as executive chairman. Oden’s career illustrates continuity between Camden’s founding period and its current national platform. He holds a BBA and MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. His long tenure should be distinguished from his current status as a non-executive board member.
