Career and Focus

Carrafiell spent 22 years at Morgan Stanley, joining its real estate business in 1994 and rising to global co-head. His responsibilities spanned European property investment and global business leadership, and he served on the investment bank’s global operating committee. He left Morgan Stanley in 2009 and founded GreenOak Real Estate with partners in 2010. GreenOak invested in property across the United States, Europe and Asia and grew organically to about $12 billion in assets under management across 10 countries before merging with Bentall Kennedy in 2019.

The combined business became BentallGreenOak, now branded BGO. Carrafiell serves as co-CEO and board member, with oversight of global business activity and particular responsibility for U.S., European and UK operations. He also participates in investment committees globally. His career bridges principal investing and investment banking: at Morgan Stanley he combined property analysis with corporate finance, while GreenOak and BGO manage capital on behalf of institutional investors. A BGO profile describes him as a 37-year private equity, corporate finance and real estate veteran. The $12 billion AUM milestone refers to GreenOak at merger, not current BGO assets or assets personally controlled by Carrafiell.
