Stephen M. Ross founded Related Companies in 1972 and is its founder and non-executive chairman. He is also chairman and chief executive of Related Ross, the South Florida development company he launched in 2024. Ross began Related with an affordable-housing development and finance business, using federal housing programs and tax benefits to structure projects for investors. The company grew into an integrated developer, owner and operator with residential, office, retail and mixed-use properties. Its major projects include Time Warner Center (now Deutsche Bank Center) and Hudson Yards in Manhattan.
