Sherman Kwek

Sherman Kwek is Group Chief Executive Officer of City Developments Limited (CDL), a Singapore-listed property and hospitality group. He took the role in January 2018 after earlier executive positions in the group's China and hotel businesses. As Group CEO, he leads a diversified platform spanning property development, investment, and hotel operations across Singapore and international markets.

Career

Before becoming Group CEO, Kwek served as Deputy CEO and Executive Chairman of CDL China. Earlier, he was CEO of City e-Solutions, COO of Thakral Corporation, and an executive director of HL Global Enterprises. He was appointed an executive director of CDL in May 2019. In 2025, a public dispute between Kwek and his father, CDL executive chairman Kwek Leng Beng, raised questions about company governance and leadership; CDL's current management materials continue to list Sherman Kwek as Group CEO.

Business Scope

CDL's 2025 annual report describes a group with more than 55,000 residences developed globally, about 23 million square feet of owned gross floor area across property and hotel uses, and more than 160 hotels owned, managed, or franchised. These are group-wide measures, not Kwek's personal production. His executive remit has also shifted geographically over time: he led expansion in China, Japan, and Australia before taking oversight of Singapore and the UK in 2018. The annual report says the current strategy emphasizes recurring-income living assets and capital recycling, giving a reader a clearer view of the portfolio priorities attached to his CEO role.
