Career and Focus

Nardone’s background includes private equity, investment banking and law. Before joining UBS in 1997, he was a principal at BlackRock. He then became a managing director at UBS before co-founding Fortress in 1998. He served on Fortress’s management committee from its founding until May 2024, was interim CEO from 2011 to 2013 and CEO from 2013 through 2017. Fortress grew into a multi-strategy alternative asset manager whose businesses have included real estate, private equity and credit. Nardone’s board biography also records service with real estate-related companies including Eurocastle, GAGFAH and Brookdale Senior Living.

The end of his Fortress tenure matters for current attribution: he left the board and management committee in May 2024 and does not appear on the firm’s current management roster. He has served on the board of New Fortress Energy since 2018. Before finance, he was a partner and executive-committee member at law firm Thacher Proffitt & Wood. He holds a BA from the University of Connecticut and a JD from Boston University School of Law. His CRE relevance is through leadership and governance at a diversified alternative manager with real estate strategies, rather than a direct property-operator career.
