Career and Focus

Henderson Land’s official biography records Lee as the company’s founder and chairman and managing director from 1976 to May 28, 2019. After relinquishing those posts, he remained an executive director. The company’s 50-year history describes Henderson Land’s evolution alongside Hong Kong, and identifies Lee Ka Shing and Lee Ka Kit as the group’s co-chairmen after the 2019 transition. Associated projects include the International Finance Centre complex and ifc mall, which became prominent components of Central’s commercial district.

Lee also chaired Henderson Development and held senior roles in a network of Hong Kong-listed companies, including Hong Kong and China Gas, Henderson Investment, Miramar Hotel and Hong Kong Ferry; he was vice chairman of Sun Hung Kai Properties. His business interests therefore extended beyond development into property investment, hotel operations, utilities and transport. He received the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2007 for public service and community contributions. Lee died on March 17, 2025, according to the company and Hong Kong exchange filing. His biography should be read as a historical account: the group is now led by the next generation of his family, not by Lee.
