Larry Silverstein

Larry A. Silverstein founded Silverstein Properties in 1957 and remains its chairman. The privately held firm develops, owns and manages office, residential, hotel and retail properties. Silverstein is most closely associated with the World Trade Center: after the September 11, 2001 attacks, his company led the private development effort to rebuild much of the Lower Manhattan complex in coordination with the Port Authority and public agencies. Silverstein Properties reports more than 45 million square feet developed, owned or managed over its history. Silverstein Properties biography · Port Authority and Silverstein joint statement

The company’s World Trade Center work included 7 World Trade Center, which opened in 2006, and 3 and 4 World Trade Center, part of the broader campus redevelopment. The projects demanded coordination among private developers, the Port Authority, city and state agencies, architects, tenants and capital providers. The current phase includes 2 World Trade Center, which American Express announced in 2026 as its future headquarters; Silverstein Properties is the developer, while the company’s CEO is now Lisa Silverstein. Silverstein’s broader record includes development and investment outside the World Trade Center, including hotels, residential projects and office-to-residential conversions. The firm describes its strength as executing complex urban projects and also acts as a fee developer for third parties. In 2023, his daughter Lisa became CEO, while he retained the chairman role. The succession separates the founder’s ongoing governance position from daily company management. Silverstein development overview · Silverstein Properties biography and history
