Career and Focus

Kilroy Realty traces its origins to the commercial property business developed by John Kilroy Sr. John B. Kilroy Jr. assumed day-to-day leadership in 1981, later becoming chairman and CEO of the public REIT. The company developed a portfolio of office properties in California and other West Coast markets, then expanded into life science real estate in markets including San Diego and South San Francisco. Its tenant base includes technology, media, life science and other innovation-focused companies.

In March 2023, Kilroy announced he would retire as CEO at the end of that year. Angela Aman became CEO in January 2024, and Kilroy remained non-executive board chair until the 2024 annual meeting, when he left the board. The company thanked him for more than 30 years of leadership. These dates distinguish his historical leadership from Kilroy Realty’s current management, which is led by Aman. His tenure included long-term investment in office and life science assets and a focus on sustainability in building operations. Public filings identify his retirement benefits and transition agreement, while the company’s recent leadership materials no longer list him as an executive.
