Known For

  • Reacquiring the stalled Fontainebleau Las Vegas project in 2021 with Koch Real Estate Investments and bringing it to opening in December 2023.
  • Repositioning Fontainebleau Development around large, vertically integrated hospitality and lifestyle destinations.
  • Leading a business that spans hospitality, residential, commercial, aviation, gaming, construction, and related operations.

Career

Soffer's career is tied to the South Florida development business built by his father, Donald Soffer, and the subsequent division of family assets. In 2019 he separated from Turnberry Associates and took control of Fontainebleau Miami Beach, JW Marriott Turnberry, Turnberry Ocean Club, and the Las Vegas resort project; his sister Jackie Soffer continued to lead Turnberry. As chairman and CEO of Fontainebleau Development, he now runs a group focused on hospitality and mixed-use destinations. The company describes its model as vertically integrated, spanning project ideation, development, and operations.

Defining Project: Fontainebleau Las Vegas

Fontainebleau Las Vegas opened on December 13, 2023, after the project had been stalled and passed through other ownership. Soffer's company reacquired the partially completed resort with Koch Real Estate Investments in 2021 and completed the 67-story property on the north end of the Strip. The long construction and ownership history makes the project a useful case of completion risk and capital partnership; reported project cost is not treated here as Soffer's personal investment.

Portfolio Scope

Fontainebleau Development says its portfolio spans major U.S. cities and includes hotel rooms, retail, office space, and luxury residences. The firm also has businesses in aviation, gaming, construction, food and nightlife. Current project decisions are made with executives and capital partners, so company portfolio figures and joint-venture projects should not be attributed to Soffer alone without transaction-specific evidence.
