Edward Pitoniak

Edward B. Pitoniak is chief executive officer and a director of VICI Properties, the experiential real estate owner formed in 2017. His career spans hotel ownership, resort development, real estate investment and public-company governance, including leadership through VICI’s growth as a major owner of gaming and hospitality properties.

Career and Focus

Before VICI, Pitoniak was vice chairman of Realterm, a private equity manager focused on logistics property. In 2014 he became managing director of InnVest, where he was responsible for recapitalizing the listed hotel REIT and bringing management in-house; he later chaired the company until it was sold and taken private in 2016. Earlier, from 2004 to 2009, he was president and CEO of CHIP (later bcIMC Hospitality Group), a hotel property and brand owner. VICI says that under his leadership CHIP delivered four consecutive years of total-return leadership among Canadian hotel REITs and was sold in 2007.

His earlier positions also included nearly eight years as a senior vice president at Intrawest, a ski and golf resort operator and developer. Before that, he spent nine years at Times Mirror Magazines, including as editor-in-chief and associate publisher of Ski Magazine. This publishing and resort background preceded his move into hotel ownership and REIT management. At VICI, he leads an owner whose portfolio is concentrated in experiential assets, while president and COO John Payne oversees day-to-day operating responsibilities. Pitoniak earned a BA from Amherst College.
