Donald Bren
Donald Bren is chairman of the board and principal shareholder of Irvine Company, one of California’s largest privately held real estate companies. He joined an investor group that acquired the company in 1977 and became chairman in 1983. Under his leadership, Irvine Company built a large, integrated portfolio of office buildings, apartments, retail centers, hotels, resorts and land, while master-planning major parts of Orange County, including the City of Irvine and Newport Coast. The company’s land stewardship has combined development with conservation: its Irvine Ranch holdings include extensive permanently protected open space alongside residential villages, employment districts, retail centers, and resorts. Updated
Bren’s influence is unusually tied to a single large landholding. Rather than operating as a diversified fund manager, Irvine Company develops and manages an integrated Orange County portfolio, coordinating housing, offices, retail, hospitality, and open space. His public profile also includes philanthropy to education, research, and conservation. The company remains privately held, so detailed portfolio metrics are less publicly disclosed than at a listed REIT. Donald Bren biography Irvine Company profile · Bren biography
