Dieter Becken

Dieter Becken founded the Hamburg-based real estate company Becken Holding in 1978 and remains its owner and a senior leader. Trained first as a bricklayer and later as an architect and engineer, he built an office-development business that helped shape Hamburg's postwar commercial districts. His projects include Berliner Bogen, Deichtor Center, and the Berliner Tor Center. Career

Becken completed a bricklayer apprenticeship, then studied architecture in Hamburg and engineering in Hannover. He founded an engineering and planning office in 1978, initially working on concrete formwork and residential projects before moving into office development in the 1980s. His first major office project was Victoria Office in Hamburg's City Süd, completed in 1991. Later projects included the Berliner Bogen, Deichtor Center, and Berliner Tor Center. In 2006 he sold a 22-property portfolio to Morgan Stanley and restarted the company in 2007 with a holding-company structure. Becken's current platform continues development, investment, and asset management; its operating management includes professional executives alongside the founder.
