Known For

  • Building Codina Group from a 1979 South Florida startup into a major private commercial real estate company before its 2006 merger with Flagler Development Group.
  • Co-founding Codina Partners in 2009 with his daughter Ana-Marie Codina Barlick after the earlier business combination.
  • Conceiving Downtown Doral, a 250-acre mixed-use district with thousands of homes, offices, retail, schools, civic facilities, and public space.

Career

Codina's career began in technology and business services before he founded Codina Group in 1979. The company became active in South Florida office and industrial development, including Beacon Center and Beacon Lakes. In 2006, Codina merged his firm with Flagler Development Group, then part of Florida East Coast Industries. After that transaction, he and his daughter founded Codina Partners in 2009. The firm has since focused on investment, development, and property management in Florida, with a range of commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects.

Downtown Doral

Downtown Doral is the signature example of Codina Partners' master-development approach. The firm describes it as a 250-acre community with more than 5,000 residences, office and retail space, schools, a government center, parks, and cultural facilities. Codina floated the idea of a downtown for Doral in 2014, but the current company is led by his daughter Ana-Marie, so present-day execution and project decisions should be attributed to the team and the stated project leadership rather than to Armando alone. The project grew from a combination of a former office park and adjacent land into a new urban center in a suburban Miami-Dade market.
