Updated
Malkin has made building performance part of ESRT’s public strategy. He oversaw an energy-efficiency retrofit program at the Empire State Building and helped develop the Urban Land Institute’s Tenant Energy Optimization Program, which addresses energy use in tenant spaces. The work links his executive role to a wider industry focus on reducing operating emissions in existing commercial buildings, where upgrades can be more complex than applying standards to new construction. Alongside ESRT, Malkin has served on real estate and corporate boards and participated in New York industry organizations, including the Real Estate Board of New York and the Real Estate Roundtable. ESRT’s current profile identifies him as chairman and CEO; historical filings document his earlier roles at the predecessor firms and the 2013 public-company transition.
