Amancio Ortega
Amancio Ortega founded Inditex, the Spanish fashion group behind Zara, and is its controlling shareholder through Pontegadea Inversiones and Partler Participaciones. Pontegadea is the family investment group through which Ortega holds a broad portfolio of real estate and other investments; its real estate activity has included offices, retail and logistics assets in major international markets. The 2025 Inditex governance report identifies Ortega as the indirect owner of 59.294% of the company’s share capital through those holding companies. Pontegadea has become a major international landlord, with investments in office buildings, retail stores, logistics property, and hotels in Spain, the United Kingdom, North America, and other European markets. Updated
The property strategy is distinct from Inditex’s apparel operations: Ortega reinvests dividends through a private holding structure, acquiring income-producing real estate and selected corporate stakes. Recent reporting on 2025 filings described acquisitions in several European markets and a portfolio exceeding €22 billion in real-estate assets, although the amount varies with corporate transfers and valuation dates.
